The Mykola Lysenko Kharkiv Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre

The new building of the Opera House stands out against small mansions and lodging houses constructed in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. It was designed by Kiev architects in the Postmodernist style, and it took almost 20 years to build — from 1970 till 1991. The building contains two auditoriums — for 1,500 and 400 seats, spacious foyers, wide stairs, numerous administrative facilities. The entrance to the booking-office hall is adorned with the ‘M. Lysenko’s Music’ decorative composition (sculptured by S. Yastrebov); the small auditorium of the theatre houses a cinema— Kinopalats.

During the warmer weather, magnificent light and music fountains glister on the site in front of the theatre. Twinkling multicoloured streams and entrancing melodies invite you to enjoy the eternal mystery of opera again and again.
